Everything You Need To Know About Ski Socks

When it comes to buying ski socks, much like with any ski equipment, the options can seem endless. However a closer look will give you some good insight as to what will work best for you. The first thing that most skiers look for when shopping for a good ski sock is something that will keep them nice in warm in their boot. A common misconception here is that they need a sock that is very thick, some people even think that two socks are better then one. However, this is not the case, in fact it really can not be any more from the truth. Ski socks today are made of material that is scientifically designed to with hold heat, and doubling up or buying the thickest sock available, can often times reverse the benefits.

Icebreaker Ski Socks

Ski socks these days are not just designed to be warmer, they also provide great comfort and support with added padding right where you need it most, and with all the cheap ski wear out there you can always find a great deal. For instance, many ski socks have extra padding on the shins to help prevent the dreaded boot bang. Many socks for skiing, like this Icebreaker version, offer additional support under your arch to help prevent cramping and fatigue in your foot. As you might imagine, skiing socks not only come in a wide range of styles, but they also range in price greatly. Personally, I’ve have not found too much difference between the expensive ski socks, like this X- Socks model, except for superior support, and warming technology. If you are someone who could really benefit from a high performance sock, or suffer from constant cold feet, then you might want to consider spending a little extra. However, for the average skier, the Icebreaker sock pictured to the right is an excellent choice. It is very affordable, offers great support, and will keep your toes nice and warm. Smartwool socks are also very popular, so you may want to check those out as well.

Whatever sock you decide is right for you, the key is to get something that fits properly. IF you are unsure about your exact size, your local ski shop can help you find the right one. The best thing to do is try on as many different pairs as you can. This will give you an idea as to how the sizes vary by brand and by style. You will notice that socks come in three main weights. Light weight, mid weight, and heavy weight. Keep in mind that heavy weight does not necessarily mean that it will be warmer. Because Everyone’s feet are different, they regulate heat differently. Often times it takes trying out several pairs of ski socks before you find one that is the perfect fit for you. However, as a skier will tell you, once you find the right sock for skiing, you’ll realize it was worth the effort! The Snow Ski Sale has a great showcase of ski socks, many of them are on sale!

Tip: For warmer feet while skiing, try not putting on your ski socks until you put on your ski boots. When we wear our socks for skiing in the car on the way to the mountain our feet sweat. This sweat causes our feet to get colder faster once out in the elements. By waiting until the last minute to put on your ski socks, you feet will be less likely to get as cold as quick…
