If you are like most skiers I know, you are always looking for the best deal on whatever ski equipment you are trying to buy. Skiing is a very expensive sport, so when you can find cheap skis, boots, poles or whatever on sale it is a very welcomed occurrence. Having been a skier all my life, I have been able to find some great ways to make sure that I get the very best deals on my gear. For the purpose of this article, I am going to keep the focus to finding cheap skis, but really you could apply the strategy to just about anything.
Knowing What You Need
The first thing that I always do when considering buying new skis, is to think about the reasons why I need them. Usually, it’s because my old ones are out dated or in terrible condition – I tend to ski over rocks from time to time. You might have a whole bunch or reasons, and with new technology coming out each year, skis are always changing. Once you have realized why it is that you want to buy new skis, the next step in figuring out what you want or need. This means you’ll need to do a bit of research, and recon work to see what will ultimately be the best fit for you. If you are an experienced skier, chances are good you will already know what length you need, and maybe even an idea on a specific model of ski. For those who are less informed, the best thing to do is talk with a professional at your local mountain, or shop, and then come back here to the Snow Ski Sale for the best deals.
Finding The Deals
Now that we know why we are going to look for new skis, as well as what skis we’d ultimately like to buy, the next step is finding the best deal on them. When it comes to seeking out cheap skis, you should not expect to find the best deal possible with one single visit to your local ski shop. Although it can happen, more then likely you are going to have to shop around. Here are my top three best ways to find skis cheap.
1) Ski Swaps – These generally happen in the fall, near ski areas or towns that have an active skiing community. Swaps can be a great place to find crazy good deals on gear both new and used, and you get to fully inspect the equipment before making any final decisions. What I also like about ski swaps is that they give you an opportunity to sell your old ski equipment for cash. This can be great if you are like me and need the extra money to be able to afford the new stuff you plan to buy. There are a few sites on the web that are working on putting together virtual swaps for those that can’t wait, check out Skiswap.com
2) Ski Shop/Local Mountain – I put these two together for a couple of reasons. First, many local ski shops are part of the ski mountain facilities and so they are really the same place. Secondly, if they are two different places where you are, then you should try both spots. You will want to ask when the next big sale will be going on, as well as if they have any left over demo skis from the year before. Demos are great as they only have a handful of skier days on them, are up to date, come with bindings and are about half the cost of what they were new last season.
3) The Internet – The web is probably my favorite place to shop for cheap skis. With so many retailers competing for your business, you can always find a ski sale going on. What I also like about the web are the outlet stores. These store offer top quality ski gear discounted up to 80% off. Sites like Department of Goods can be stellar places to find killer deals on ski equipment. I mean seriously, this particular site has deals up to 80% off, talk about a discount – so be sure and check them out! The Snow Ski Sale is also a great place to find insane deals on cheap skis for sale! Check out these listings:
No matter what method works best for you, the bottom line is that you can save money and find cheap skis out there. Often times it just takes knowing exactly what you want, and having patients. After all, where there is a will, there is always a way!
